Overview

The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office Training Academy is certified by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) as a full-service, independent, training academy. The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office Training Academy is authorized to conduct basic and in-service training in corrections, court security, civil process, and law enforcement. Additionally, the Academy conducts DCJS approved instructor schools in the following areas: General, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and Driver Training.

The function of the Training Academy is to provide and coordinate the training for all departmental personnel (sworn, non-sworn, and auxiliary). The Training Academy’s goal is to provide job specific training that will improve job performance with proactive emphasis. The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office Training Academy takes great pride in providing training that meets and/or exceeds all standards and requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.
