The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office is a proud supporter of Special Olympics Virginia which provides training and competitions all year round for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office participates in Dancing with the Athletes, Plane Pull, Polar Plunge,Tip a Cop, Torch run, Wawa with the Law, and several Special Olympics’s sponsored events . All proceeds help provide year- round training and athletic competition to Special Olympics athletes of all ages.
Dancing with the Athletes- 10 Special Olympic Athletes are paired up with 10 Deputies that compete in a dance contest similar to Dancing with the Stars.
Plane Pull- The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office has a 25 member team that pulls a 180,000 pound airbus 12 feet to try and get the fastest time. They are the current reigning 8 time champions.
Polar Plunge- The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office team raises money to plunge into the cold Atlantic every February. 
Torch Run- Each summer, law enforcement participates in a unity run. The run goes through each city in Virginia and ends in Richmond for the opening ceremony.
