Social Media Policy
The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office social media accounts are intended to enhance communications, engage with the community, and provide public safety information. We encourage public interaction and communication about the content we post, but please note that public comments posted do not reflect the opinions of the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office.
Discussions on the sheriff’s office’s public social media accounts must comply with our social media policy, and all conversations within those platforms should remain courteous. Public comments and messages are monitored.
The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office respects the public’s First Amendment right to free expression; however, to maintain a respectful online environment, we will enforce content moderation in accordance with our social media policy.
Comment Removal
We reserve the right to hide or remove comments. The following are prohibited:
- Profanity, abusive, obscene language, hateful or hate speech
- Threats of physical or bodily harm, harassment, or incitement of violence
- Content that promotes, suggests, or encourages illegal activity
- Defamatory or libelous content, and statements
- Comments that are clearly off topic to the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office post
- Spam, links to other sites, advertising links, or fraudulent messages
- Personally identifiable medical information
- Comments that violate copyright or trademarks
- Promoting services, products, or organizations
