Chesapeake, VA — In the aftermath of the Hurricane Matthew, CSO Work Force crews responded to more than 26 work orders for downed trees, blocked roads and flooded streets.

One of the worst hit areas was Deep Creek. Two days after the storm passed, neighborhoods along the Dismal Swamp Trail Canal were still experiencing flooding. Workforce crews filled 10,000 sandbags and placed them along the water line.

On Monday, October 10, 2016, Sheriff  Jim O’Sullivan surveyed some of the damaged and greeted crews as they worked to stop the overflowing water. The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office has 17 inmate work crews; each crew saves the city $175,000 a year.
