Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan and the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate Captain J. Stafford on graduating from the 279th session of the FBI National Academy on Friday, March 13, 2020. This training is geared specifically toward executive leadership in law enforcement organizations; only the top 1% of law enforcement officers in the world are invited to attend this training. The 279th session consisted of men and women from 49 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 32 countries, five military organizations, and eight federal civilian organizations.

The National Academy is ten weeks in length, with a curriculum, taught by FBI instructors and professional educators, focused on leadership development, and emphasizes critical thinking. In addition to academics, the National Academy includes Fit Challenge which is a series of physically strenuous activities involving running and progressively higher intensity circuit based workouts. The final run of the Fit Challenge (the Yellow Brick Road) involves 6.1 mile run negotiating hills and rough terrain with natural and man-made obstacles.

Now Captain Stafford will bring all her new expertise back to the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office to not only protect and serve our citizens but to train and lead the next generation of law enforcement. Congratulations Captain Stafford and welcome back!
