Deputies Rocky & Roxie
October 25, 2023Thanks to the holiday weekend, the 22nd Session has an extra day to rest and recover from Week One of the CSO’s Basic Deputy Training Academy. As the 22nd Session prepares themselves for week 2, we asked graduates from the 21st Session for words of encouragement and advice:
“Week one was the hardest—mentally,” remarked one graduate.
“A lot of the training is endurance-based. They want you to keep going, even when you’re tired,” said another.
“Arrive 20-30 minutes early so you have time to make sure you have everything you’re supposed to.”
“Start getting along with your classmates; they’re going to be your family for the next 4 months.”
And “Look out for each other and learn to work together. Remember, if one of you fails inspection, you all get punished.”
Words of wisdom the class seems to have taken to heart. On the first day of the academy, instructors were impressed to not find a single pet hair on their uniforms. However, ironing their uniforms was a skill that still needs to be mastered. While some flew through the initial 1.5-mile run and others struggled to finish, NO ONE gave up.
17 individuals walked through the academy gate bright and early on an arctic January morning last week. ALL 17 will return for week two tomorrow. Not a single trainee quit during week one, impressing the instructors and setting a strong precedent for perseverance.
This week, they will continue their training to ultimately earn the privilege to protect and serve.
Good luck, 22nd Session!
