We’re told scammers have been impersonating CSO deputies and demanding money over the phone. The scammer identifies himself as “Sergeant Chris Pascal” and claims there is a warrant out for the resident’s arrest. The scammer tells the resident to pay $2,000 in fines immediately to avoid being arrested. We’re told the scammer directs the resident to come to the CSO’s admin building alone, meet him in the parking lot, and hand over the money. Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan wants to warn residents that this is a SCAM. We will never ask for payment in lieu of arrest. Scammers have been known to spoof the phone numbers of law enforcement agencies. If a resident receives a suspicious phone call from our agency, we encourage them to hang up and call our admin building directly. Anyone with questions about a warrant may contact the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office at (757) 382-6159.
