October 4, 2022 (CHESAPEAKE) – There is a new second-in-command at the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office. On October 4, 2022, Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan promoted David Rosado to the position of Undersheriff in a Quarterly Service Awards and Promotional Ceremony in Chesapeake City Council Chambers. Colonel Rosado is now responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the constitutional office at the direction of Sheriff O’Sullivan. That includes managing the safety of the 441 sheriff’s office employees, as well the safety and security of the 1,000 inmates of the Chesapeake Correctional Center (the average daily population of the correctional center averages 900-1,000 per day), and approximately 357,000 citizens that enter the Chesapeake court buildings per year. Colonel Rosado will also oversee the tens of thousands of civil court papers and criminal warrants the agency serves per year.

Colonel Rosado is a 21-year veteran of the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office. He joined the office as a Deputy Sheriff in 2001. As he moved up the ranks, he served with distinction in corrections, public information, administration, court services, and training. Most recently, he served as the Chief of Court Services overseeing court security and civil enforcement. In 2021, Sheriff O’Sullivan appointed Colonel Rosado as the head of the new “Senior Advocate Office” tasked with working with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney to investigate and prosecute crimes against seniors. Passionate about community service, Colonel Rosado uses his skills as a magician and certification in crime prevention to perform an educational magic show about bullying for local elementary school students. He has performed the “Be a Buddy, not a Bully” program for more than 32,000 Chesapeake Public School students. Colonel Rosado also helps coordinate the agency’s flagship Elite Unit program (a community program and training academy for individuals with intellectual disabilities) and Dancing with the Athletes fundraiser for Special Olympics Virginia. As second-in-command, Colonel Rosado looks forward to continuing to serve his community and fulfill Sheriff O’Sullivan’s vision for the future.
