May 3, 2022Scammers are at it again, targeting senior citizens in Chesapeake. Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan is warning residents not to fall for it! The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office (CSO) has received several reports of seniors targeted with the “jury duty scam.” Here’s how it works: scammers call a senior, identify themself as a CSO deputy, and claim the senior missed jury duty. The scammer says they have a warrant for the senior’s arrest, and the senior must pay a bond immediately.
We want to stress that this is a SCAM. The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office will never ask for payment over the phone or through smartphone applications. Furthermore, we will never offer to negotiate a payment instead of arrest. Anyone with questions about a warrant should contact the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office at (757) 382-6159.
